Overview
Our Client are a leading Utilities business with a dedicated team delivering safe, reliable and economic multi-utility supplies and services (electricity, clean water, waste water collection and treatment, natural gas transmission and telecoms). They are now seeking an experienced Operations Technician within the Smart Metering division.
Reporting to the Smart Meter Operations Engineer, the Operations Technician will work with the team to ensure the optimal operation of all components of the smart metering system including, but not limited to, Meter Data Management (MDM) performance, Smarter PAYG and all Secure Reach hardware. Responsibilities will include:
- Repair, test and calibrate all types of metering and electrical test equipment
- Install and remove metering and power quality recording equipment
- Investigate, test and report on metering queries
- Prepare and manage HV and LV Current Transformer metering installations
- Raise and manage orders as required within the meter test room
- Manage the testing and calibration of the meter test bench
- Provide support with the SmarterPAYG prepayment system including the management of system faults
- Monitor the communications performance of all smart meters and arrange prompt rectification
- Repair and install any equipment necessary to keep the smart meter system operating effectively
- Run scheduled jobs in the Head End System (HES) and MDM system
- Field phone calls and provide direction to staff undertaking work on the smart meter system
- Achieve agreed objectives effectively within specified timescales
- Provide support for any system issues that arise in and out of office hours, undertaking out of hours standby duties on a rota when required
The ideal candidate for the role of Operations Technician will have:
- Be a time served Electrician or have relevant industrial / engineering experience
- Hold a full driving licence
- Experience with AMI technology and wireless data transmission
- Conversant with the requirements for electricity metering and associated systems
- Good understanding of the communication systems/technologiesused in smart metering
- Awareness of relevant health, safety and environmental legislation
- Awareness of relevant industry standards
Desirable:
- Conversant with the current version of wiring regulations
- Good understanding of the communication systems/technologies used in smart metering
- An experienced and highly competent electrician/technician
